Build your Startups AR/VR App and get it ranked on Google.
What is an app and how can it benefit your startup?
There are massive benefits for startups having an app. Improving communications, sending promotions, Boosting brand visibility in SERP (Search Engine Results Pages) -brand recognition or even converting your website into an app. Augmented Reality is a thriving business.
"AR has the ability to amplify human performance instead of isolating humans. So I am a huge, huge believer in AR. We put a lot of energy on AR. We're moving very fast."
-Tim Cook (CEO for Apple)
Ireland has had resounding success in more recent times with VR, and I will go into that a little more later.
For now...let's look at the difference between a regular app and a AR/VR App.
So you're probably already used to typical apps such as WhatsApp or the app for Facebook Marketplace?
But if you want to be digitally disruptive and really stand out from your competitors an AR/VR App may put your startup on the radar.
Basically, an app is a computer program that is created to run on either a mobile device or an iPad. The word App is an acronym for "Application" –and in terms of the apps you download onto your phone it refers to a software application.
Programmers can develop apps and either sell them or give them away for free as part of perhaps a marketing or branding initiative, or to compliment their online store. Nowadays, you don't even require coding skills to develop your app. Appiepie is a great place to start for those with limited technical skills.
Let's say for example- that a Garden supplier has a website called "Grow Your Own" in which they sell plants. They then decide for their customer's convenience to turn the website into an app. In this situation, they built their app to support their website and may not charge for the application.
However, if the same company then decided they wanted to monetise from app development, they could decide to create a gamification app related to their niche. A simple game that focuses on teaching others how to grow plants. This can have a dual impact on the company as their apps and their website will build their brand's exposure on SERP (Search Engine Results Page).
What is an AR/VR App?
Ok, now let's look at the difference between AR/VR Apps….
VR=Virtual Reality… what may spring to mind is the Oculus Rift headsets. So, people putting on headsets to experience a virtual world. VR offers them an immersive experience and can be used in conjunction with game consoles or apps.
AR=Augmented Reality…Instead of immersing yourself in a completely new environment AR can be used to add layers to your existing environment using graphics, therefore changing your perception. These digital overlays may include video, text or 3D Models. The great part about AR is that you only need your smartphone to indulge in the experience.
The Silicon Dock (The nickname given to the area surrounding the canal dock in Ireland-One might think of it as Ireland's own-Silicone Valley), houses some of the biggest tech giants in the world such as Facebook, Google, Twitter, LinkedIn amongst other startups. It's not surprising that enterprises wish to develop tech industries in Ireland as they are given access to some amazing innovation and R&D within prestigious Universities.
But Ireland has it's own emerging success stories in VR –a Waterford based start-up, Immersive VR Education raised an astounding 6.7 million on the Dublin and London Stock Exchange. The companies mission is to allow educators to create an educational virtual environment and best of all-you-can try it for FREE.
Had to throw in the jig there just to celebrate their success....Check out what they have developed. It's pretty radical and forward thinking.. :-)
Now your next question might be …
